A variety of free Nordic skiing opportunities exist for skiers of all abilities surrounding Pagosa Springs.  Most trails are groomed for both classic skiing as well as skate skiing.  The Pagosa Nordic Club is the best source for grooming updates.  If you don't mind encountering snowmobiles, the Wolf Creek Trail Blazers groom miles of additional trails (without set tracks for cross country skis).
