Chris Mountain Trail

Located 13.8 miles northwest of Pagosa Springs, Chris Mountain is a convenient location for early season hill and altitude training.  Unfortunately, ATVs have torn up the trail over the years, and now the rocky trail simulates some of the local mountain trail running races like the Kendall Mountain Run or the Imogene Pass Run.  It's one of the few technical mountain bike options in the Turkey Springs Area.

It's a challenging 1.7 miles and 650 feet ascent to the top.  The trail starts out with switchbacks, but the final push to the top is straight up the mountainside.  Because the mountain slopes downward towards the southwest, you lose 530 feet as you travel the 4-mile loop on top.

There are nice views toward Lake Hatcher as you're ascending and descending the mountainside, but no great views from on top because of the dense forest.
